Happy blogversary to me!!

Unbelievable. Two years in the game?
Big sigh***, this isn’t a kid’s game. Honestly speaking, there were times when I wanted to give up, but I did not. I experienced writer’s block and lacked the desire to make use of my creative juices at times, but I have never given up. I still endured, even when I saw my stats drop due to a lack of consistency. Guys, it was difficult. My blog isn’t perfect, and it is a long way from what I wanted it to be, but I am glad I made it a haven for myself. A home where I can just be me without reservations, and it has brought so much joy and fulfillment in my life.

My journey with WordPress has been a rollercoaster of emotions, and a lot of fun for the past two years. As part of my gratitude article, I’d want to walk you through some of the blogging milestones I achieved this year. I took advantage of opportunities relating to blogging, and I am fully aware that there are opportunities that I would not have bagged if it hadn’t been for the fact that I was a blogger. I am so grateful to this blog for low-key speaking and marketing for me. It is part of my profile where investors or recruiters can check whether they want me in their corner or not. I believe it accurately reflects who I am and more.

Let’s get started!!

Blogging community.

At all costs, I met priceless, amazing people who became a strong support system. I had no idea there were still individuals out there who could be that kind and loving even if they didn’t know you. Well, I’ve met strangers who have had a great impact on my life, but I had no idea such people existed on the internet. I thought the internet was just a cruel, mean, and toxic platform until I joined WordPress two years ago. ‘Kea leboga’ (Thank You) to all of my fans who have been such an incredible support system since the beginning, even when I lost the ball. You never stopped believing in me, and I appreciate your kindness. Thank you for making my time and efforts on the internet worthwhile.

More than 800 followers.

When I first started blogging, I convinced myself that I would be fine even if no one read my blog. When I reached 100 followers, I began to believe in myself and said, “Oh, it’s possible.” I began to see that more people were taking notice of me, and I began to set my reach higher as well. I was on 500 plus within the first year. Although it may seem less to some, it was a significant achievement for me because I aimed for no one to read my blog at the time. I currently have more than 800 followers. I expected it to be higher by now, but I’m grateful for the community I’ve built so far.

Awards

One of the earliest blogging buddies who supported and followed me when I first started gave me my first award for Liebster Award. Her name is Jeremy, from India. She has the most incredible blog where she writes about a variety of topics. You can check her blog Thea Thoolika and be inspired. I was overjoyed because I had only recently begun blogging. I didn’t think a new blogger like me was deserving of such an honor. From then on, I received numerous nominations from other bloggers and gained recognition.

The Afrobloggers community also gave me some awards. During the Afrobloggers WinterABC2021 challenge and Afrobloggers Awards 2021, I was merely nominated but did not make it to the finals. The majority of the folks with whom I competed were far too gifted. At the time, I came to terms with the fact that I might not make it. For me, the nomination was a win in and of itself. I still felt like a victor.

I also got nominated by the African Print Authors and Poetry Awards for the Best Author of the Year category. The nomination itself was unexpected, given that this is one of the most prestigious awards in the literature world.

SOG stories: Physically challenged people

I have been invited to several events with physically challenged people ever since I started writing about their triumphs on my blog. It was an honor to be a panelist for discussions about topics that addressed specific issues like reality and disability. It is a topic that is important to my heart because my mother is deaf, and there are a lot of things that I see at first glance that I am grateful I was allowed to address.

Social media strategist.

Last year in particular, I got offered a position managing a social media page for one of the media houses. It was a fantastic opportunity and a tremendous learning experience for me. I learned a lot about social media and how to use it to your advantage rather than against you.

Magazine editor and a Freelance Writer

I’m sure you are aware that I work as an editor for a local local publication and the experience has been nothing short of fantastic. I would not have known how to edit, check spelling and grammar, proofread, and so on if I hadn’t been a blogger. All of this I learned when editing my blogs. Blogging was, without a doubt, my testing ground. If you go back and look at my first year of posts., you’ll notice that I’ve made a lot of progress. I intend to rework all of my earlier entries and make them SEO-friendly, but I’m not ready. My aim is for you to see all my past mistakes and how far I’ve come as a writer.

Women’s empowerment sessions.

Most of you are aware of my strong interest in women’s health, well-being, and empowerment. I get so much joy when women are allowed to be the best version of themselves. I’m grateful that my blog has allowed me to build a platform where I can communicate with and reach a large number of women from various walks of life. As a result, I have been asked to speak on several occasions about women’s issues. I have also hosted prestigious events for women, and it was nothing but a once-in-a-lifetime experience . I never despised small beginnings. I know that one day I will marvel at the opportunities my blog will afford me. This was a win for me.

These, I believe, are some of the milestones I’ve reached through blogging, and I do not think any of them would have been possible without the help of all of you who read and comment on my posts and encourage me. I am excited to see what the next year of blogging has in store for me. We are going big and bold this time around.

How long have you been blogging, and what are some of the opportunities blogging has afforded you? Let me know in the comments area.

Cheers to many more years with the Sanctuary of Greatness!! Happy Blogversary!!

From my heart to yours
Cheers!!
