What I Know For Sure by Oprah Winfrey
|I was browsing through book files and bumped into Oprah Winfrey’s book titled What I Know For Sure.
My heart leaped with joy when I saw the book and I indulged in it instantaneously. At no time did I put it down and within 2days I had already read it twice. Go ahead and check it out on Amazon or you can purchase it in your nearest bookstores and be inspired as I did. The reason I prearranged a review was just how inspiring it is.

It’s the simple things in life which genuinely puts a smile on her face, she said. She has come to understand the things which matter in life. In the book, she mentioned eight unique and remarkable points, which She Knows For Sure. The book also includes interesting anecdotes from Oprah’s personal life.
Β
- JOY: Oprah does take pleasures seriously. It doesn’t take a lot to make her happy because she finds satisfaction in so much of what she does. She values relationships so much that in every great thing that has ever happened to her, her friend Gayle has been the boldest cheerleader and a friend she can count on. This brings so much joy to her soul.
- RESILIENCE: No matter who we are. We all have our journey. Oprah’s birth was marked with regret, hiding, and shame. And as an adult, she had kept a huge secret for far too long. Like it would or have done to most of us, it caused her to deem herself unworthy and not good enough. The healing of wounds of the past is one of the biggest and most worthwhile challenges of life. The challenges you face will build up your tenacity and resilience.
- CONNECTION: We all indeed need the kind of relationships that enrich and sustain us. We are given responsibility for our own lives and with responsibility comes an amazing privilege – the power to give yourself the love you will ever have. Oprah stated it well when she said, ‘When you make loving others the story of your life, there’s never a final chapter because the legacy continues’.
- ATTITUDE: If you make time for a little gratitude every day, you’ll be amazed by the results. To feel the gift of gratitude, your ego has to take a backseat. Instead of being frustrated, you choose gratitude. The more grateful you become, the more you will have a lot to be grateful for.
- POSSIBILITY: How can I realize my potential more fully? That’s the question she still asks herself. As long we are still worried about what others think of us, they will keep owning us. Having the courage to stand up and pursue your wildest dreams will give you life’s richest reward and adventure. Oprah’s biggest mistake in life is giving power to people. Love yourself more and believe that you can make it.
- AWE: If you peel the layers of your life, the frenzy and noise, stillness is waiting, she quoted. I am naturally a peaceful person. This book made me realize that stillness and peace are within me. Open your eyes and heart and you’ll begin to see it. The older she gets, the less tolerance she has for pettiness and superficial pursuits.
- CLARITY: I relate too well with her when she says it took her time to say no. She was often overwhelmed by people’s views as a caregiver. She was too busy trying to give all that everyone needed that she lost touch with what she had the desire to give. As women, we’ve been programmed to sacrifice everything in the name of what is good and right for everyone else. You can’t give what you don’t have.
- POWER: Oftentimes when we make statements about others behind their backs, it’s because we want to feel powerful – and that’s usually because in some way we feel powerless, unworthy, and not courageous enough to be forthright. There is no need to make others feel down. Instead of belittling, uplift. Instead of demolishing, rebuild. Oprah Knows For Sure that what she says and does will be returned to her. Let it be your ultimate goal.
Though some of the points listed in the book are simple truths that have been said before, they become weightier when they come from a powerful and influential woman like Oprah Winfrey. What I Know For Sure is indeed a private book of revelations, as Oprah calls it. This is an inspiring and refreshing book recommended for anyone who wants to confront what they truly believe in and become the best they can be. Get yourself a copy and be inspired.
